A Walk in the Desert
Pit fired ceramics, pine needles, artificial sinew, devil’s claw, beads in turquoise, coral, bone, wood, stone and other natural materials.
Approx. size – 16″ wide x 9″ high
The ceramic portion of “A Walk in the Desert” felt like an old leather saddle from the moment I began working on this sculplture. I imagined walking or riding a horse through the canyons and flat lands of our beautiful desert collecting trinkets and marvels that the earth has to offer on such an excursion. The final embellishments reflect the possiblities of such offerings. The basket portion contains twists and turns so prevelant in our canyons and washes and contain such intriticate interactions that I literally had to work, bent over, upside down, for some sections.
