Working with a white clay body allows the chemical components used in a pit firing an opportunity to express themselves in such an intense fashion. It is rare that I can achieve this level of coloration in a red clay body. This is a one of a kind ceramic base. I find the colors to be just spectacular. They strongly mimic the hillsides in the Paria canyon area in southern Utah. Intense iron oxide colors. The curves of the base also suggest the many, many wash areas here. The final embellishments reflect the wonderful tumble of earth’s offerings gathered up in a crook of a wash after a storm has chased them down the water’s path.
