Pit fired ceramics, pine needles, artificial sinew, pit fired bones, fire agate, sterling silver, glass and stone beads, Harry Lauder Walking Stick
Approx. size – 20″ x 13″

Part of the permanent collection of the National Park Service – Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

This particular sculpture was the first of several that I completed during my residency program for the National Park Service at the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The upward free floating pine needles that finalize the piece reminded some of the birds soaring over the park while to others it is symbolic of the twisting air currents so prevalent in the area.   The final embellishments reflect the evolution of time and change in the area with the addition of bones, fire agate and sterling silver shells, which evoke the feeling of fossils.  It is an honor to have this sculpture become the first piece of artwork in the National Park Service’s GCNRA collection as a result of their first Artist in Park Residency Program.
