While nature has always been the muse for my work, “Raven’s Arabesque’s” design is directly related to what was occurring at the very moment it was being woven.

Early spring brings not only windy conditions, but also the acrobatics of the local ravens as they court and play. This was the company I kept while I weaved.

I watched the ravens outside my studio sweep and swoop, then climb high and dive swiftly, as they played chase with one another. I took great delight in their antics and continued that delight in how I shaped my basket weaving. The Devil’s Claws were the perfect final homage to the ravens as they give the impression these wonderful bird’s feet as they tumble and reach for one another in mid-air.
