Armond Acri, a client of my friend, Diana Holcomb (who in my opinion is the finest skull restoration artist I’ve seen) asked that once the skull was cleaned that it be sent to me. This gentleman is the epitome of responsible hunters as he wanted nothing left to waste from this cow elk and he could think of no better place of giving her a final honoring than to have her sent to me. I was touched beyond words by both these people’s generosity and trust. Armond recently told me that he had shown Elsa to numerous friends with the comment of “all elks are trophies”. I couldn’t agree more as there is such a gentle quality about the female skull structure that is many times overlooked due to large horns or antlers taking most of the traditional attention.
Her name became Elsa the minute she emerged from the box and I knew she must be done in lavenders and purples. I had originally thought of contrasting greens but the blues gave her a regal, rich look. Before Diana sent her to me, she had emailed me about her and told me about a bad tooth that the elk had had and explained that the tooth must have given her much trouble in her life. I so loved that she shared this with me as it immediately gave me a connection to the animal that once was.
The hand blown glass center stone has been waiting for the perfect home for a number of years now. Originally intended as a necklace slide, it is perfectly transformed into an elegant jewel for this regal elk.
