Decorated Warrior was my first bison skull. The skull was a gift to me from my husband and I was thrilled the day the box arrived. This is a particularly large, heavy, bull skull, so I knew from the onset that something bold and dramatic was needed to fully give credence to such a magnificent animal. He had the feeling of a warrior from the very beginning. The burnished brass rods piercing his nasal plate added to the air of toughness and bravery. I could envision him with his head held low and straight, getting ready to charge and do battle.

The center five cabochons almost become a secret surprise as the beading design begins with them and creates the extended pattern for the upper forehead, directly in contrast to the linear, geometric design of the nasal and lower regions. I love the contrast between the brass piercings and the use of freshwater pearls. It points to the powerful warrior side of this beautiful creature as well as the gentler, protective, patriarch embodiments.
