Stained Glass

My introduction to the creation of stained glass in 2000 was an unexpected gift. I experienced such an immediate connection to the medium and the processes. I loved seeing the finished colored piece in my mind while looking at a black and white pattern. To be able to paint with glass utilizing the various textures and types of glass was, and still is, magical to me. I love the challenge of cutting glass by hand, into shapes that really have no business being cut in such a fashion. It is an act of bravery and humility when cutting difficult shapes and an expression in gratitude when the forces of nature comply.

Stained glass pieces are by commission only. Please email or call for more information and a conversation about a one of a kind piece of art designed specifically for you.

“THE CRANE”
From the Collection of Christina Schmaltz
Approximate size – 2′ x 2′

Living near the Boise River in Idaho, “The Crane” was the perfect depiction of
wild life on the river for owner, Christina. A life long animal lover, this
window brought the outside in and created sunshine,
even on the darkest winter days.

“DRAGONFLYS”
From the Collection of Mickey and Jean Carns
Approx. size – 1.5′ x 2′

Owner, Jean Carns, has always had a special affinity for dragonflys.
This window captured two in motion, in what appears
to be a dewey garden moment.

“SHEILA’S SKY”
From the Collection of Warren and Sheila Whisler
Approx. size 2′ x 3′

Sheila asked me to create a stained glass window based on a half dollar sized pendant of
inlaid stone that her husband, Warren, had given her as a gift. Sheila, an artist in her
own right, gave me a larger mock up of the concept she wanted in her window.
From that “Sheila’s Sky” was created, including fanciful planets, a meteor
and bezeled stars. The window was installed in a high wall nook which catches the
morning sun and illuminates the entire living room.
Coffee in the morning is now an option!
